Production

Margosa extract is manufactured in Germany with a high-tech process (international patent pending) in which the extract is obtained using carbon dioxide in a supercritical state as an extraction agent. The highly pure oil constituents are extracted very gently via the CO2 high-pressure extraction.

This advanced process offers many advantages over typical methods of obtaining margosa extract:

No residue of organic solvents in the CO2 extract.
Only traces of undesired substances such as sulphur compounds and phenols are present in the CO2 extract, which heightens the effectiveness of the extract.
The CO2 extract does not contain any of the contaminants that are responsible for the strong, frequently encountered onion odour or the extract discolouration that reduces its stability.
Since the extract is sterile, it does not need to be preserved. It contains no water, proteins or polysaccharides, leaving no basis for bacterial growth.

After CO2 extraction, the margosa extract is analysed in an analytical laboratory to verify that it meet the defined specification. Also important here are the routine checks for fungal toxin levels (aflatoxins).

From an environmental view, our production process also features the following advantages:

Minimal water consumption and wastewater production.
Low energy consumption thanks to the low temperature of the process.
Closed extraction agent cycle.
The production residues can be composted or be used as fertiliser.
